In 2019, the consultation for the George Street Renewal started via the DCC, they received 1,198 submissions including one from the Generation Zero Dunedin team. The team submitted a submission with a clear message about the sustainable direction that the public wanted the city to head towards. Making sure that the city design would help future-proof against changes due to climate change.
The way people are moving around the city is changing and the DCC needs to provide a design which reflects this change. We believe that by transforming George street into a more pedestrian-friendly area it will increase foot traffic and be a place where people want to spend their time, not just shopping but being able to wander down the street and admire the change.
