Submit on The Future of Rail and Land Transport

The Government is consulting on two major pieces of transport policy. The Government Policy Statement on Transport determines where over $9 billion dollars of transport funding will be allocated over the next three years. The NZ Rail Plan lays out investment for rail until 2030 and into the future.

We want you to submit in favour of public transport, road safety, walking and cycling.

Vehicle emissions are the fastest-growing contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, amounting to almost 70% of our total transport emissions. Moving our people and freight should not be detrimental to our health and the health of our environment.

Both the Government Policy Statement and NZ Rail Plan are a great start with unprecedented levels of funding for sustainable transport. But they need to go further. We made a quick submit form so you can easily call for sustainable transport from our government!

Thanks Gen Zero. I propose that all freight coming in and going out at Port Chalmers is transported by the existing rail. And all logs to be exported are transported by the existing rail. NO more passenger buses from the cruise ships, no more logging trucks and container carrying trucks on the road – all can use the existing rail
