Both groups have concerns about how local governments react to the COVID-19 crisis given their current balance sheets and the prolonged impact on their incomes. We need to ensure decisions aren't being made to cut expenses to keep debt low without properly considering the long term costs of things like climate change.

We believe that in these extraordinary times central government should step up to help local governments so that our communities are helped through today without hurting future prospects.
